Colors That Photograph Well
Solid colors and muted, soft tones generally photograph more cleanly than busy patterns, small prints, or large logos, which can pull attention away from your face and expression. Jewel tones — deep blues, burgundies, forest greens — and warm neutrals tend to work especially well outdoors, where natural light and greenery already add plenty of color and texture on their own.
Bright white can be tricky in strong sun, since it can blow out in bright light, while true black can absorb detail in shadow. A range of mid-tones in between gives the most flexibility across different lighting conditions.
How Many Outfits to Bring
This depends on your collection. Essential sessions work well with 2 to 3 outfits — enough for a little variety without needing extra time for changes. Signature and All-Inclusive sessions have room for more outfit changes, which pairs well with multiple locations or looks.
Quick check: if you're between two outfits, bring both. It's far easier to choose once you see how something actually looks in real light.
Matching Outfits to Location
A more polished, put-together look tends to suit urban or architectural settings — think downtown streets, modern buildings, clean lines. A more relaxed, casual look often fits a natural or outdoor location better — think parks, fields, or tree-lined paths. This isn't a strict rule, but it's a useful starting point when you're deciding what to bring for which part of the session.

Team uniforms, dance attire, band uniforms, or anything tied to a meaningful activity make for some of the most personal images in a senior gallery. These don't need to dominate the session — even one or two looks built around a genuine interest add a lot of personality without turning the whole session into a theme shoot.
What to Avoid
- Busy patterns or small, busy prints
- Very bright neon colors
- Large, visible logos or text across the chest
- Anything that's uncomfortable to move in
Test Run Your Favorite Outfit
If there's an outfit you're especially excited about, wear it once before the session if you can. This catches anything uncomfortable, ill-fitting, or just not quite right before it matters, rather than discovering it for the first time in front of the camera.
