Wedding Photography at Garey House: A Planning Guide

Garey Park, Georgetown, Texas

A Tuscan-style estate set within a 525-acre public park along the San Gabriel River.

We have a wedding booked at Garey House for January 2027 — we're looking forward to it, and this page will be updated with a real story once it happens.
About the Venue

A Private Home, Now a Public Park

Garey House was built in 1995 as a private home for Jack and Cammy Garey. In 2004, they donated the property — along with funding for renovation — to the City of Georgetown. After remodeling, it opened as a public event venue, hosting its first wedding in 2018. It now sits inside Garey Park, a 525-acre public park along the South San Gabriel River, about 23 miles north of downtown Austin.

The estate's Tuscan-style architecture is its defining feature: a lawn and terrace that overlook a pond and waterfall, a Great Room with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and walking paths that wind through the surrounding parkland.

Why Couples Choose It

Tuscan Elegance Without Leaving Texas

Garey House appeals to couples who want a European, romantic feel without traveling for it — the pond, waterfall, and Tuscan architecture give it a different character than the Hill Country barns and historic mansions that dominate the Austin venue scene. Because it's city-owned, it also tends to be more accessible price-wise than many comparably scaled private estates.

We don't have firsthand experience here yet, but based on the layout — a lawn and terrace overlooking water, with mature oak trees throughout — we'd expect this to be a strong location for soft, natural-light portraits, especially in the late afternoon.

Photography Considerations

What to Think About for Photos

Natural Light

The Event Lawn and Terrace face the pond, which should offer good reflected light for portraits, especially earlier and later in the day.

Indoor Spaces

The Great Room's floor-to-ceiling fireplace and doors to the patio suggest warm, flexible indoor portrait options.

Outdoor Spaces

The Terrace and Event Lawn appear to be the primary ceremony locations, both overlooking the pond and waterfall.

Weather Considerations

As a primarily outdoor-ceremony property, ask Garey House directly about their rain plan and tenting options.

Quick Answers

Common Planning Questions

We have a wedding booked here for January 2027 but haven't photographed at Garey House yet, so these answers are based on the venue's publicly described layout rather than firsthand experience.

Is Garey House better for daytime or evening weddings?

Likely daytime to early evening, to make the most of the pond and waterfall views before dark.

Where are the best portrait locations?

The Terrace overlooking the pond and the walking paths through Garey Park both seem like strong candidates.

What's the rain backup?

Couples can hire a third-party vendor to install a tent on the Event Lawn or Terrace — worth confirming current tenting options directly with the venue.

What's the best season to get married here?

Spring or fall, most likely, given the outdoor-focused ceremony spaces and Texas summer heat.

Can family photos happen indoors?

The Great Room and Hall appear to offer indoor space, but confirm capacity directly with the venue for your group size.

Is flash allowed?

We don't have direct experience here yet — always confirm flash and lighting policies with the venue before your wedding.

Planning Tips

Questions to Ask the Venue

Ask about current guest capacity, since the venue was renovated and expanded in summer 2025.

Confirm rules around alcohol and smoking, since Garey House is city-owned property with specific restrictions.

Ask about tenting options for the Event Lawn or Terrace as a rain plan.

Since the venue sits inside a public park, confirm whether park visitors might be present during your photos.
